Best Practices for Cultural Institutions |
“Best Practices for Cultural Institutions”, on Saturday, June 11, 10:30-3:30, was an intimate gathering, allowing for presentations and dynamic, needs-based round-table discussions. Registered attendees included staff from the Sundance Institute, New Mexico Fine Arts Museum, Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office, Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communication at UNM University Libraries, and NM State University (Las Cruces) Art Gallery. Lunch + refreshments were provided on site, for continued interactions in the large theater space at Warehouse 21.
Each of the four ‘experts’ gave Powerpoint presentations to case-study illustrate various issues being discussed, from working with no longer produced film and slide stock, to maintaining detailed documentation and metadata, to evolving digital technologies and old hybrid works.
Attendees came prepared to express their personal and institutional needs, which formed the basis for our agenda and the extended group discussions.
The Thoma Foundation hosted an invitational reception at their Art House, following the Saturday workshop, for participants and others, to acknowledge their financial support of the “Best Practice” workshops and CURRENTS 2016, and to preview their “Mouse in the Machine: Nature in the Age of Digital Art” exhibition.

“Thanks for hosting the best practices workshop last Saturday, I particularly got a lot of good information from Mark Hellar.”

“It was wonderful meeting you at the Media Preservation lecture/roundtable. Not only was it very informative, but I came away with a plethora of new ideas and methods to approaching our collection in the future. Thank you so much for moderating such a fascinating panel.
