SARC (Scientists/Artists Research Collaborations)
SARC (Scientists/Artists Research Collaborations), a program of the Santa Fe based 1st-Mile Institute, having just successfully piloted the Summer 2012 SARC initiative as a featured project of ISEA2012, is now strategically formulating the next years’ efforts. Research institution partners to date have included the Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, University of New Mexico’s Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC) and Santa Fe Institute. Start-up funding has been generously provided by Lockheed Martin (Sandia National Labs) and the New Mexico Consortium (LANL), with additional company sponsors: Los Alamos National Bank, CenturyLink/Qwest Communications and Qforma. Additional collaborative partnerships and support structures are now being developed. SARC program viability and intentions will require continued strengthening and brokering of regional arts, sciences, education and community relationships. These efforts will be integrated within a regional economic-community development strategy for arts/sciences initiatives in New Mexico. SARC is growing an emerging ‘Pool’ of interested cross-disciplinary artists and scientists. Proposed 2013-2015 programs are to be developed under a coordinated framework titled: “ECOS”. • “ECOS” a series of monthly public Artists/Scientists Seminars plus Working Meetings. • “ECOS” an Arts/Sciences “Grand Challenge” Commissioning program. • Participation in networked arts/sciences interactions globally + web site + publishing. “ECOS” will focus SARC research and output on addressing some of the most critical questions and "Grand Challenges" facing society; hoping to inform and inspire creative thinking and understandings directed towards life-sustaining eco-strategies and actions. 1st-Mile Institute – SARC is now seeking support for its intended works. Your participation and support are invited. |
